anders trentemoller has become one of the most respected names in cutting edge electronic music in the last few years. his rise to notoriety was sparked by his early, techy releases for poker flat and audiomatique and has since gone on to stellar highs with his own personal take on the genre, spanning, pop, rock, indie and classical. his debut album >the last resort< was released in 2006 to much international acclaim, and the producer also began to become an in-demand remixer in the house and techno world. as the decade wore on his sound continued to progress, opening up his studio to more live instrumentation, and a looser, rock-meets electronic vibe with his stunning >into the great wide yonder< lp. now this special double cd and double vinyl release celebrates some of the producer s favourite remixes he completed for other artists, and also some of his personal picks where other musicians have reworked his music.

the aliens return with another anthem. there has been a lot of speculation as to who these bad men are, with most guesses being people who have released on the ssds label or other south londoners. some of the main guesses have been kromestar, coki, cotti, f-1, n-type, and kosha, but i am not convinced anyone actually knows who is in it.

for this first release, we give you the opportunity to grab 4 fantastic trax done by legendary detroit producer : jason grove. born in detroit, he started his career in the late 80s, dj-ing in underground parties when the techno house movement was just at the beginning. he was invited few times on detroit local stations such as wdrq & wjlb to play. some said he was at that time very close to the >wizard<, helping producing their first tracks with anthony srock as final cut. he had many opportunities during the 90s to release some of his work on various prestigious labels, however, as the guy is really hardcore & straight edge, he prefered to continue producing only with analog gears (dont ever speak to him about a computer or hell get mad !) & record his work on cassette only, selling it to indie stores & giving it to friends for some special events (birthday, graduation ect ... !). we heard this story long times ago & it was only when we were in l.a. last year at pooh-bah record shop that we finally managed to get our hands on one of those tapes (one from june 1991 & the other one done in october 1992) with some of the best & incredible music we ve heard in years, it sounded like kerri chandler before kerri chandler did even start to release any tracks ! those first tapes are finally available after a hiatus of more than 15 years on vynil only (!)

a great track from joe & ubit (aka hugo), remixed by two of the founders of the label (phooka & maurizio cascella) and great guest artist, hubble. the original track is a pure concentrate of techno and filtered tools. voices, percussion and bleeps all mixed with a relentless and powerful bassline. phooka rmx is a swell of synth and bass, which offers a glimpse into the psyche of the listener, a drive of techno beats & a powerful dancefloor-orientated track. hubble gives us a masterpiece, a mental and dark version, in line with his other works and his unique and personal style! maurizio cascella closes the rmx and transform the original track with a heavy groove and loops the song, making it a unique and potent dj tool, a must-have for all djs.

terry lee brown junior is back on plastic city with his new 3 track single >baltimore<. here we have two great remixes and one original dub version. on the a-side is the pumping bas amro remix. its a little bit techy and would rock every dancefloor at the maintime! the b1-track is the aki bergen remix and it sounds more minimal than the other ones. also we have here more elements from the original included! for the last is the b2-track. its the dub mix of the original with less vocals and a straighter beat programming. the productions are very accurate, the interplay of moods, sounds and emotions is functional and sexy, very concidered and perfectly restaged. terry lee brown junior make the next step right back into the clubs. perfect!

the title track >radio anatomy< is a synth-laden italo monster, serious dance-floor material. detuned pads fizz under an arp and walking bass, caving in to a tear-away synth lead that pumps the tune into overdrive. the groove has a pace to it and sits on top of the beat and all surrounding articulation and effects keep things interesting.
on the flip we have got a serious remix from none other than emperor machine. this guy has been unstoppable in the remix department for some time, and it doesnt look like he will be faltering anytime soon! we are initiated with brioskis fantastic original bass and pad sequence, but in typical e.m. fashion the build up is sustained and full of suspense. haunting vocal chants ensue before the bass drops and the funk kicks in. what a drop! the switches are clever, the instrumentation is solid and the vibe is out of this world. brioski - >radio anatomy is an unforgiving italo dance-floor release, with help from one of nangs finer contributors.

15 years have passed since alex cortex began to create his own vision of electronic music - timeless and beyond trends, without a buzz or hype, steadily winning the following of djs and home-listeners, collectors and critics worldwide. his style can be described as unpredictable to a certain point, while maintaining high aesthetic standards. playful with quotes and references, always low-key and focused on psychedelic immersion into sound that shifts the attention from the artist to the music. kihon is a very personal effort, as suggested by the self-portrait on the cover that puts ear, eye, and mouth -reception and production- into context. the carefully elaborated design of this gatefold double lp speaks as a whole and in true minimalist fashion about the passing of time, without ever declaring nostalgia to be a means for itself. this also reflects in the music. alex cortex evades large gestures and obvious quotes, but is certainly conscious of locating his album within a framework of references to other works of electronic music that are important for his own musical evolution. in 11 nameless tracks, kihon takes us on a journey through organic worlds of sound that invites us to flow with the music and connect with the feelings contained in it. the title kihon that relates to japanese martial arts translates to basics or fundamentals, the training of which does not even cease when reaching master grades. those basics that are passed on beyond time are also the foundation of this album. by concentrating on the bare essentials, the music begins to speak, turning the album into a harmonic whole. kihon therefore is also a return to listening, away from a utilitarian perception of music as a background sound. this does not mean it would not work perfectly well in a club context -in the right hands it indeed does- but more notably, kihon is a work of art worth your attention and destined to stand the test of time

excellent deep house album. andy vaz s straight vacationing, his first full-length artist album, since the 2006 release of repetitive moments last forever…, registers as less a straight-up collection of dance-floor burners and more of a variety pack that mixes club tracks and full-fledged house songs. listeners hungry for just ordinary 4/4 throw-downs will not entirely get their share of those, but they ll also get a whole lot more on this dynamic and well-rounded set of eight album tracks and that is exploring house music not just as a simple one way street, but give you a very personal view of the music we call house.

there are still around, real environmentalists for whom the term preservation means more than just a trend. paul-david rollmann alias even-tuell belongs with his artistic productions (among other things, one of the creators of the enthusiast label workshop) to the class of those who answer the call for effective art, design and indulgence. the maxim is always the free will, emancipated from szperfluous market mechanics and the falsehoods of the zeitgeist. for musik krause, his activity is recorded on 2 releases. a split with metaboman and a formidable remix for ian simmonds adorn the catalog. with his quasi-first complete musik krause ep he shows a raw and coarse club music sound without losing even a breath of the aesthetic and compelled movement. all three pieces sound as if they were crafted from centuries old tools, in the way that his music is filtered through the machines humanizedm discharged in a kind of essential honesty.

you may have listened to fred de f productions with recent dance artists collaborations (adi-ermane - need each other, fred de f & luke jeferson - sankukai). new release cloud is still marked with fred de f touch and a distingtive radioactif musical flavor.
fred de f original version is progressive, ultra-bumping, inspired from spanish soundings. the version releases body-heat and energy. great track for dancefloors. tom donax composes an aerial remix and explores a different universe: breakbeat soundings, vocal inspired from the nineties and presence of pads break the rhythmic bringing the record a nice equilibrium. cool version for a home listening.

following up the scorching debut release another night, deep&disco recordings sidesteps the sophomore slump with elisco, an infectious electro-funk groover that both cements the labels commitment to quality and expands their musical range.
a chunky nu-disco track with hints of metro area and a catchy vocal hook, the seeds of elisco were planted in the early 2000s when label founder jkriv and lou teti were sharing a loft space in williamsburg, brooklyn. after an afternoon of cowbells and synths, the skeleton of the track had its shape, and their other roomates girlfriend was enlisted to sing the hook. she had no singing experience (or rhythmic sense) to speak of, but somehow it all worked and elisco was born! although its always been a personal favorite of the producer duo, the song remained shelved for almost 7 years until they dusted it off in early 2011 and readied it for release on the newly minted deep&disco recordings.
providing remixes for the vinyl release are the legendary leftside wobble, who turns in an extended and bpm-d-up version quite true to the original, taking the machine vibes to the next level with added loops and fx. brightons alphabet city brings the disco-boogie sensibility to the package with a deep mix that features jkriv on live bass, and whiskey disco regular sleazy mcqueen rounds it out with an indie dance stomper.

dresdens cult label uncanny valley returns with the charming catalogue number six. following up jacob korns first artist ep for the label its c-beams turn now to continue the series of artist eps. break sls and sandrow ms project can be referred to as a true labels child. musically, both artists got to know each other only when the label was founded. for >strollin< they lend the vocal talents by tina slotta who is associated with uncanny valley as well. the result is an irresistible house-jam. easy vibrant beats are complemented by birds twittering, warm keys and tinas carefree lyrics. jackmates remix toughen things up and transfers the tracks with mighty detroit-chords into a real monster for the dancefloor. the slightly murkier >scrapyard< takes its strength out of the interaction between its vehement beats and the c-beams-typical sound excursions. finally, the instrumental of >strollin< rounds up the ep.

a few days ago james blake premiered a new track, a collaboration with bon iver called >fall creek boys choir<, and now its been announced that the track will be included in an upcoming ep from blake called enough thunder.
we now also know that the ep is due out october 10 on atlas and will feature blakes cover of joni mitchells >a case of you<, as well as four other new tracks from the electronic singer-songwriter wunderkind.

for well roundeds 11th release bristols skinnz drops a trio of infectious and melodic creations that share a kinship with todays garage and funky house sounds whilst standing apart due to their unique character. you may know sam from his other alias baobinga. he is man who commands much respect for his collaborations with people from a wide variety of musical backgrounds and his ability to channel his influences in an unforced and colourful way.
on the skinnz releases so far he has experimented with more garage influenced beats, while retaining his trademark focus on percussive momentum. however these tracks often flow freely across boundaries and genre limits encouraged to evolve in any direction that creates excitement. previous skinnz releases have already appeared on pinchs earwax label and boka records whilst his debut outing was on one of the first compilations of music that might be termed dubstep – the classic >our sound< album on destructive.

black tokyo sessions 2 leads off with legendary other half of lfo gez varley the g-mann remixes the aux 88 classic shadow dancing. g-mann mix is a certified club banger with nonstop effects over the pulsating basic channel type string layered with those ohhhh so beautiful detroit strings.
track 2 side a gives us a taste of japan via andrez bergan. he gives us electronic underground. his beats add a more glitchy minimal style to aux 88 familiar electro side. side two electronic cinema remix and original mix scotlandís own arne weinberg gives us a taste of his moody side mix which is very hi classed cafe style mix.
aux 88 gives its fans yet another treat the original mix previously not available on vinyl!

after two buzzing releases, senzen is quickly getting recognition it deserves. but third time is the charm, right? well, at least in this case. senzen 3 title track, >gonna b<, is based on studio sessions of label boss benno blome together with his long time friend armin engel, who has worked on projects with fela kutis band rhythm taxi & jimi tenor, and had a show on jazzradio berlin for years. the track itself has influences from both producers. tech house meets jazz, what a fascinating concept! freestyle drumming, keyboard jams and effects tied together, creating an original approach to club music. remixers of >gonna b<, marcin czubala (mobilee) and jin choi (contexterrior, private gold, archipel), are two of the hottest producers at the moment. after his excellent streak of releases on mobilee, marcin makes an outstanding debut on senzen and delivers a deeply rooted house remix concentrating on tiny tweaks and variations while carrying them solidly throughout the track. jin, on the other hand, doesn’t let functionality stand in the spotlight of his remix. his music is supposed to touch emotionally and to move the head and the body - and believe me, it does!

these words are in the deepest part of douglass greed and the approach to his debut album. he allows his heart to lead, the better to look where it goes. therein hes distributing straight dope, however, in the sense of emotional impact – dance floor dictation it is not. greed crafts music that serves up euphoria for your mind on the terrace, mas- sage table, train or car trip and so on. a timeless effect stretches along the borders... an enduring touch, and to remain in the mind for seasons to come is his concern with this album. this is more weeping or laughing in the mirror rather than admiring the physical. douglas discusses not the luxurious but rather simplicity, in order to serve a sophisticated >author-future-pop< for the club under the bedspread. his fondness for other forms of musical self-realization shimmers on all of his releases up to now. on his own album, he expresses this passion to the fullest. the inclination for sensible beauty in the dark plays as the greed signature, a central role. featuring musician friends such as mooryc (poznan /polen), pascal bideau (a frenchman in london), kemo (a ger- man-hawaiian in new york), ian simmonds (uk) and delhia (jena), greed casts twelve expressive pulse beats of pure greed cosmos.

the second part of the ki split series is a feature of our homegrown talents christian loeffler and steffen kirchhoff. the two friends are part of the ki family since the beginning (loeffler was responsible for the first release on ki and kirchhoff for the third). both artist have a close connection in sound aesthetics and atmosphere, since they still inspire each other every day. on the ki split series 2 you can listen to christian loeffler and steffen kirchhoff experimenting with beautiful samples and underlining the whole piece with their unique sound structure. both in their respective very own romantic approach to deep, melancholic techno music.

this cut by dobws co-funder jerome catalepsia bazzanella, is a straight and heavy on the floor slice of futuristic techno, constructed around a cyclic discoid baseline. as distressing sci-fi effects collides and crash into each other, a dehumanized vocoded voice enunciates random numbers. scary.

roberto auser drops a massive disco bomb on the label that gave us all the early coca disco classic, the magic mixed up the hague mixes from i-f and many other timeless releases. this is one of the highlights of i-fs dj sets in the past months and it just had to come out on vinyl. highly explosive!

stefan schutz aka juno6 belongs to the society of the leipzig new school, which for the last 5 years has cut a path through emotions and change in diverse regions. his particular real estate is comfortably between deeper house and thoroughly scrutinized techno. sometimes he tends in one direction, at other times the opposite. all the while juno6 captivates both listeners and dancers alike with something new. his live sets are always an occasion – sound expeditions in the most literal sense embedded powerfully, yet imminently fresh as they are bound to tradition. he even dials up the the ambient/electronic field with project beautiful planet earth, or together with friend daniel stefanik as sensual. the sonic awareness of juno6 is expressed consistently as a potent degree of warmth, which paints a distinct lively and long-lasting tone on club music. the tone is hardly useful as a flavor of the month, but rather, a music with stamina and character. his track >guununk< is for more than a few the quiescent highlight of the fat 5zig compilation. on his second from fat, he displays the juno6 portfolio fully and expands his present effect with a portion of funkiness and a sprinkle of pop – at least on one of the cuts. with clever vocals mr. schulz informs us yet again.
